How To Enhance The Life Of Flowers In A Bouquet

By Francine Calimlim

All of us have a fondness for flowers, and bouquets are favourite gift options for special occasions like birthdays and weddings. However, the biggest issue with a flower bunch is that once the flowers and leaves dry up, they not only lose their beauty but in fact start looking ugly. One solution is to gift artificial flowers that will never dry up, but they are a poor alternative for the fresh ones with their unique natural colour and sweet scent.

Undying freshness of bouquets can never be attained, yet their withering can be slowed down notably by some methods. Here are a few suggestions that will help you keep the flowers looking fresh for a longer time.

Firstly, you should discuss with your florist about the life time of the flowers that are in your bouquet, as some varieties such as sunflower, have shorter periods of bloom than flowers like lilies and roses. You have to tell your florist to put only such flowers in the bunch that will not wilt away too soon.

If you have been given a bouquet then you can cut the stems and place the bouquet in water in a vase. This aids in retaining the life of the bouquet for a longer period. If a few leaves or flowers have started to wilt, you can remove them so that the bouquet doesn't look unattractive with dry leaves visible in it.

You must not keep the vase at a dark location where it does not get sufficient air and natural light. Flowers tend to wither much sooner in the absence of light and air and by making provision for these important elements you would be able to retain the freshness of the bouquet for a longer span. However, the sunlight reaching on the flowers should not be harsh as that way the moisture will be lost and they will die quickly. - 32376
